we started going to the red barn last year when we got our first chicks – they are one of the larger feed supply stores in the san fernando valley. we met the owner on one visit – a great guy and WWII vet who has a great collection of historical newspaper clippings plastered all over the high walls of the store over the cash register area. he also has sons serving in the war in afghanistan and other military services. when I first went there – they had a sweet yellow hen that would walk around the cash registers and act very much like a dog or cat – it was bizarre and somehow normal. the vibe of the place is an LA gem and the owner is a caring individual who has been running the place for over 50 years. definitely worth a visit if you need any pet food near LA…
