notting hill – hidden tube posters

I had seen some posts about this last summer – an unused part of the london tube was opened and a great collection of 1960’s posters were uncovered – fully intact. it is a sort of transit and graphic design time-capsule…

from the London Underground’s Flickr set:
Work at the station has recently uncovered these amazing advertising posters in non-public areas and that date from c1956 – 1959 when the station’s lifts were removed and replaced by escalators. These are in an old lift passageway. We will be leaving these intact – and please do not pester the station staff as the posters are wholly inaccessible – which is why they’ve probably survived 50 odd years. The passageway was recently accessible while the station was undergoing upgrades and Mike Ashworth, Design and Heritage Manager for London Underground, took the opportunity to snap these eerie pics. The old lift access corridor will be resealed once the renovations are complete, preserving these advertising gems for future explorers.

vintage disneyland posters

I come across some of these from time to time on other websites and blogs – but here is a pretty comprehensive collection of disneyland attraction posters. I have always loved the simplicity, strong silkscreen colors and composition…
